4. When it comes to submitting a document for printing, what is the optimal file format?

When submitting a document for printing, the Portable Document Format (PDF) is typically the most suitable file format to use as it works with professional digital. PDFs are designed to maintain document integrity across different systems, thus eliminating any discrepancies that may arise due to incompatible software or hardware. Additionally, other formats such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator are able to export PDF’s at satisfactory DPI, and Microsoft Word can easily be converted into PDF files, although we recommend that you convert them to PDF and inspect them carefully before submitting them to Disc Pro Graphics.

5. How accurate is what I see on my screen to what is printed?

There are ways to utilize technology to increase the accuracy of what you see on your screen. Disc Pro Graphics recommends using CMYK when designing using your PDF. Also for placement accuracy, converting any other document format such as Microsoft Word or Powerpoint to a PDF will insure that your fonts and artwork within your pdf are as you see them in your printed artwork.

6. What resolution should be used when making my pdf to be printed?

For standard image quality photos and other artwork should be no less than 300 dpi. When exporting from Adobe Indesign you have the ability set the exporting dpi for high resolution images. Anything less than 96 dpi will look blurry or pixelated when printed, and these lower resolutions should be avoided. For the highest quality in printing we recommend sending us source files and Disc Pro Graphics will export your quality artwork at the highest possible dpi for the chosen printing press. Our digital presses can print up to 1200 dpi for provided amazing imagery.

7. How do I prepare a file to print when designing using Canva?

It is very common to use Canva for designing pdf’s for print. There are a few important things to note when saving a document for printing. First, make sure to save the file type as a PDF Print and select crop marks and bleed. Second, any text used in Canva, the font is only embedded as a subset making it difficult to update any text after the file is saved. Third, each image is embedded as an RGB image making it undependable to know what the finished product will look like unless converted to CMYK. There are more in depth things to know before using canva for designs if you want your prints to their very best. Disc Pro Graphics highly recommends using Adobe Creative Cloud software for designs, giving you optimal design control over your printing projects!
